New Music Friday: December 19, 2025

And so we are here again – the last New Music Friday of 2025 (at least, the last one we do before we go on hiatus). It’s been quite the year. I know I’m exhausted. I’ve listened to more music than some people hear in a lifetime, and I’ve enjoyed sharing the best of it with all of you.

Things are pretty slow this close to the holidays, but what new releases there are, we’ve got for you here. Like the surprise-released three song EP from Kitchen Dwellers.

Last week, I was heartbroken to learn that Reese McHenry, a powerful rock n’ roll voice I’ve been a big fan of, sadly succumbed to her long battle with cancer. With this sad news came one small ray of light – her husband and friends were putting together a final, posthumous album of her work to come out next March. With that news, they shared one of these final tracks, which I’m including today.

Arkells have teamed up with Portugal. The Man for an anti-greed jam, while Pinkshift and gone in a more mellow and haunting direction with their new track. Tigers in Cairo have shared covers of Jawbreaker and Mission of Burma, and Richard Ashcroft has given us a bonus cut from his recent album. Folk great Bill Callahan has a mood new track, while Drayton Farley‘s is more rousing. Some other familiar names with new tracks out to close out the year are Perfect Buzz, Crazy & The Brains, Monster Rally, Claire Guerreso, Capillary, Every Us and Theo Bleak.

And the last batch of new names joining our NMF playlist for 2025 include hi, low, Big Harp, Junior VP, Dhärä and Belonging.

So enjoy this last bit of new music before saying farewell to 2025. Thank you for being a part of our biggest year yet, and a big BIG thank you to my awesome team of writers/contributors who’s work you’ve read alongside mine this year.

Wishing a happy holidays and new years to all of you, and see you in 2026!
