Formed in 2022, six-piece band Isaac Sloane & the Sound Brigade have taken their home state of Texas by storm. Mixing classic rock n’ roll with soul, jazz and blues, the band has been nominated for the Dallas Entertainment Awards’ “Best Blues Group” two years in a row, while gathering a following through festival spots and opening for groups like Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears. Since coming together, the band has mainly focused on releasing singles (as well as one EP), and their debut single “What Love Is” remains a favorite.
“What Love Is” is a pure soul cut. Stax-style horns match-up with the vibrant rhythms, while light jazz riffs and organ fill out the sound around Sloane’s sumptuous vocals. The rest of the band chime in on a gang chorus, and get to cut loose on the bridge with some solo noodling.
