Though Scuzbot have been around since 2012, I only first heard them at the end of last year, when band member Mitch Koehler reached out to me about a separate project. He shared a new song from his band Scuzbot, revealing they were preparing to release a new album this year.
The band’s sound had the elements of early 2000’s emo, with more complex guitar parts and furious punk drumming. Their new single, “Give or Take” takes a slightly different direction. The drumming is larger and heavier, like a Foo Fighters song, while the guitars go in a more anthemic direction. Even the vocals sound tighter and more controlled, creating a tension that allows the song’s chorus to really burst open into a righteous, melodic banger.
