When Japan rocks, it really rocks. Since the 60’s, Japan has embraced western style garage rock, punk and alternative music (just listen to this comp). That authentic embrace of real rock music continues in new band 1+1+1.
Directly inspired by 90’s alternative and punk rock, songs like “Baby Mansion” have the fun, slinky grooves of underground British Invasion music with a crisp, raw production that gives the song an extra bite. On “Asthmatic Heaven”, the dirty, guitars and heavier drums evoke the sound and spirit go grunge and alternative’s heavier acts of the 90’s.
The band lets things draw out on the slithering “Crawl”, giving Alice In Chains vibes even as the guitars stack up and go for bigger, U2-sized soundscapes. The band even shows a knack for shoegaze power-pop ala The Posies on woozy single “Dream”.
