Banger of the Week: Highwind – Where I Belong

Self-described “boys from the prairies” of Canada, Highwind feels like a proper name for a band from distance areas of the far north. And the gravitas of the band name carries over to the friends’ hard-rocking sound. Having garnered accolades and coverage from some solid publications, the group is likely going to outgrow the small cities they hail from soon with songs like “Where I Belong”.

While originally written back in 2014, the track finally came to fruition last year with the addition of the band’s fourth member. Dealing with themes of love and loss, the song pushes its heavy themes through intricate math rock guitars and guttural screams that carry the emotional weight. As vocalist Chase Rysavy sings “I’m caught in the daze, into my bedroom wall. And those lines feel like prison bars that won’t let me out” you feel the claustrophobic angst, and the ripping ending to the track acts as a cathartic release.

So starting riding the music of Highwind in our Bangers of the Week Playlist.
