Country: Spain
There’s plenty of Christian rock in the world (especially in the U.S.). Spain’s Red Moon Yard have declared themselves the first Buddhist rock band. I’m here for it. The band seek to share themes of “the ‘impermanence’ of the material, vital interdependence, the continuous instability of this life that permeates everything, karma…” in their songs.
There’s an existential pondering in “This Year is Gone”, while the band rides some Dire Straits-style guitars with horn accompaniment towards soulful bliss. “Run” goes bigger and harder, with large riffs opening the song, and then gradually moving into a folkier, classic rock arrangement as vocalist Marcos Fermoselle waxes nostalgia and shares appreciation for the one life we have to live.
Of course, some songs are just simple tracks about having fun and finding love. “Hang Out” has a sunny, danceable groove and warm, inviting melody that is capped off my Spanish guitar lines. The male/female vocal trade-off creates an intriguing dynamic, building to an explosive ending.
So find some inner peace through memorable tunes with Red Moon Yard. Hear two of their songs in our World Watch Playlist.
