The Transatlantics are an all-queer rock band spanning both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, and writing music that gushes with Britpop and blues rock influences. Citing Oasis and Led Zeppelin as some of their hallmarks, the band whip up rollicking guitar music brimming with attitude.
“I’m a threat to your security” the band taunts transphobes on “Transgression”, a raw 70’s garage rock jam which would have the MC5 nodding in approval. The band digs into their love of blues riffs on “CloudJam”, even as the vocalist does their best Liam Gallagher drawl.
The group also shows a dreamier side on the acoustic, harmonica-laden “Cumulus” which sounds like the musical equivalent of laying on your back in a grassy field and watching the clouds roll by (possibly while on mushrooms). And the excellent “Dreammaker” acts as the band’s statement track, propelling itself with an empowering chorus and irresistible gang vocals. “Buckle up, cause we’re gonna be out tonight” is the kind of line to start or end a show with, as it promises a great night ahead.
Put The Transatlantics on your radar, and listen to a couple of their jams in our World Watch Playlist.
