Artist: Solypsizm
Song: “Eat the Rich”
Album: TBD
Genre: Rock, Indie
Solypsizm isn’t so much a band as a rotating collective spearheaded by an independent songwriter/producer exploring various styles in the indie/rock/alternative/pop spaces. Working with different singers and musicians, they have been releasing a constant stream of singles over the last year, including the rebellious new one “Eat the Rich”.
About the track, the artist has said:
“I was inspired to write the song “Eat the Rich” after learning about the inequality between wage growth and market growth over the past 50 years. I wanted to make a song with a bit of levity, humor, and really catchy music to provide a backstory to the common phrase/joke from internet comments.”
Musically, the song has a theatricality to it, with the vocals a mix between a croon and a Morrissey-esque bellow. The song captures the intention with orchestrated indie rock production and ventures into lounge and even mariachi styles, all ending in a metal guitar solo. It’s a truly unique specimen of songwriting, with a pointed lyrical outlook.
