World Watch: JohnnyB

Country: Greece

Indie rock is alive and well around the world, and today we are venturing to Greece, where musician JohnnyB resides. The independent artist draws from 70’s, 80’s and 90’s sounds when writing his authentic, soulful tracks.

Recent song “All I Ever Wanted” shows off his deep, unique timbre, laying somewhere between Axl Rose and Ronnie Van Zandt. A rolling, southern rock-style arrangement builds, cresting into a Pearl Jam-worthy grunge ballad. Every element, from the organ to the contemplative percussion, fits in perfectly to the song’s craftsmanship.

“The Last Goodbye” continues his interest in grunge, but also isn’t afraid to dive into the glory of 80’s hard rock with a luxurious guitar solo. And fitting the name, JohnnyB explores elements of post-punk and melodic hard rock on “My Darkest Times”, though also has a hint of outlaw country into the acoustic rhythm.

While it may not be the type of music you’d expect to hear while enjoying a vacation on the lovely Greek isles, it just goes to show how various sounds continue to resonate with people all around the world. Hear some of JohnnyB‘s songs in our World Watch Playlist.
