New Music Friday: February 27, 2026

February is closing out strong with some fantastic new music releases coming out today.

The always-eclectic animated group Gorillaz are back with a worldly new album. The modern King of Pop Bruno Mars has dropped his new for-sure #1 seller, and folk superstar Iron & Wine have their latest album for us. Another folk rock luminary, Bill Callahan, has a new LP out today. 90’s stars Matchbox Twenty have compiled lost tracks from their North sessions and released it as an EP, and one of our favorite Canadian songwriters, Donovan Woods, has his new EP out today.

After YEARS of waiting, our Most Anticipated Album of the last three years seems to really be coming now, as Social Distortion have dropped their first new song in well over a decade! And gone from the scene even longer are Gnarls Barkley, who surprised everyone by dropping a new single (with their new album coming next week)! Rising street punk group Codefendants are garnering steam for their next album, dropping its third single this week, while beloved scene band The Maine shared the second song from their upcoming LP. The Pretty Flowers have another ecstatic new track out, while the latest from 00’s pop rockers Vertical Horizon is a dreamier affair.

Philly punks The Menzingers dropped a surprise new single, and Swedish folk troubadour José González shared the third new track from his upcoming album. 90’s underground heroes Trashcan Sinatras are back with a new track, and Tori Amos has teamed up with her daughter to show they are ‘stronger’ together. We have the first 8 minute single from indie rock legends American Football, and another songwriter we love is Aaron Lee Tasjan, and he has a hypnotic new track out this week.

Other returning talents on the list this week are Felicity, Courtney Barnett, Highly Suspect, Josie Edwards, Joe Caruso, The Dream Machine, Jaguero, Robert Ellis Orrall, Thomas Duxbury, Footballhead, Hedge, Guided by Voices, Cape Crush, Rain Diary, Melanie Martinez, Des Rocs, Pacific Avenue, The Bends and Joker’s Hand.

And excited to introduce all of you to some fresh names this week like Michael Chagnon, The Wilhelm Screams, Olivia Frances, South Summit, Eric Gabriel, The Slow Country, Nathan Evans Fox, Thomas Csorba, Downey Chase, Quiet as a Mouse, Gary Klebe, Jeff Cohen, Marie Franc, Antarkish, The Mighty One, Future Teens, Criteria, Red Skylark, Jessye DeSilva, verygently, and Ó hEaráin.
