While the moniker of JRNXLST may be new in the music world, the man behind it – Christian A. Guerrero – is by no means a scene rookie. For years, Guerrero fronted Bedlight for Blue Eyes and toured with some of the biggest bands around like Paramore and My Chemical Romance.
JRNXLST was born from Guerrero’s desire to write music that was honest and visceral, bordering on the uncomfortable, and which could help people escape the torment he regularly himself endures. “Halo”, the first single from the project, on the surface is an instantly catchy indie pop-punk gem with a dance floor-ready sheen. Underneath, the track seeks to dismantle toxic relationship dynamics while addressing heavy topics like borderline personality disorder, codependency, and guilt.
The lyrics address a person who seems to think themselves “above it all”, as Guerrero sings “You think you’re wearing a halo? You don’t know who you are.” The song’s second half, sung in Spanish, evolves into a call to action for the starving children of Gaza, and also finds Guerrero chastising himself for his own inaction.
It’s a song that demands your attention. Check it out in our Check This 2026 Playlist.
