World Watch: Folket

Country: Sweden

Don’t let the name fool you – Sweden’s Folket are not a folk group. Instead, the band writers vivacious pop-rock tunes that seek to get crowds jumping and chaos started.

The band released their first single back in 2023 – “Some Kind of Way”, a Strokes-esque hip-shaking cut of swagger and sweat. The song’s mission is right in the lyrics, “I want you to dance.” And if you heard this blasting out in a crowded, simmering club space, you bet your ass you’d be moving to it.

And then there’s the band’s latest track, “Trouble”, keeps the garage rocking. The vocals get even more sultry; the guitars grab you and smack you around a bit; the rhythm section pulses with feverish energy. Even if you don’t want to dance, your body will say “Folket” (get it?) and you’ll join in the raucous fun.

Even when the band sings in their native language on songs like “Blev Housini”, a cowbell-laden slapper, they tackle it with such passion and attitude there’s no confusion as to what the band wants you to do.

So don’t resist. Join the Folket family and listen to two of their songs in our World Watch Playlist!
