I have been a massive fan of Canadian genre-mashing band Bedouin Soundclash for many years, so when I learned that frontman Jay Malinowski was preparing to release his third solo outing this year (under the name Malinowski), I was very excited. And after hearing the wonderful collection Under a Landslide of Stars, a sometimes dark, sometimes moving collection of songs centered around the various types of love in the world, I knew I had to discuss the album with its creator.
A few weeks ago, I was able to hop on a call with Jay to discuss his approach to everything from songwriting to singing to his production decisions. He also gave me a little insight into his inspirations, and what to expect from his upcoming solo tour.
