Country: Columbia
Punk rock continues to thrive south of the border. Today we travel down to Colombia, where ferocious band One Reason to Rise is releasing fast and furious skate punk that will give you plenty of reasons to rise, jump, and mosh in an epic circle pit.
The band has plenty to say, in scorching polemic tracks like “Harsh Truth” and “Wake Up!”, which bring to mind bands like Pennywise. The latter leans into hardcore with its roaring chorus and fast, hard breaks. The guitars even dive into metal on the propulsive “Going Nowhere”, even as the vocal melody leans back into softer harmonies.
There’s another side to ORtR, as heard on “Rad Dad”, a tribute to a punk rock dad, which has a sweet sincerity to it. There’s an innocent spirit to this one, that could be found on a pre-major label blink-182 record. Overall there’s something retro to One Reason to Rise’s sound – a throwback to the 90’s underground sound that certainly holds a nostalgic place in my heart.
