Artist: Curtis Harding
Song: Wednesday Morning Atonement
Genre: Soul, R&B, Rock
Curtis Harding hit the scene a few years ago, releasing an excellent Velvet Underground cover, followed by his debut solo effort, Soul Power. Melding classic soul with classic R&B, indie rock, and a smattering of other styles, it was a strong album that left me curious as to what he would do next.
The answer to that is team up with Danger Mouse on a new single that will be part of his upcoming album, Face Your Fear (October 2017). Set to beautiful orchestration, Harding sings about an estranged father who can’t be there for his family, while also looking at how the music industry can keep artists away from their families. Hard vacillates between a smooth croon and a deadly falsetto, sounding like a lost Marvin Gaye track.
Face Your Fear will be one of my most anticipated albums of the Fall.
