Continuing our coverage of acts playing Coachella, today we introduce you to Melbourne, Australia’s Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever. Playing Sunday the 16th and 22nd at the festival, the group originally formed in 2013, an debuted their first EP, Talk Tight, in 2016. Their follow-up, The French Press EP, was released last year on Sub Pop Records.
The EP’s title track is brimming with chiming melodies and disaffected singing, but it’s the excellent guitar lines which elevate the song, giving it a 60’s atmosphere. The competing vocals at the end add a rough edge to the track that burnishes just enough of the shine to keep it from feeling too formulaic. It’s definitely a song that would sound best played on vinyl, blasting from a speaker during a day time hang out.
And it will certainly sound good soaring through the hot desert air in Indio four months from now.
