It may sound like a good sign when a band’s formation began at a liquor store, but in Manchester-based Pale Wave‘s case, the results so far have been good. The group crafts immaculately guitar-heavy pop with a synth sheen that shows their 80’s rock influences.
Their first single “There’s a Honey” is an insanely catch confection, with front woman Heather Baron-Gracie showcasing a nonchalant vulnerability singing “I would give you my body, but I’m not sure that you want me”. The track, produced by labelmates the 1975, has an ebullient sound that contrasts with the darker lyrics. It’s easy to see it getting a Coachella crowd dancing in a tented stage, while a few super-fans get emotional, shedding tears in the front.
