Country: Spain
I recently discovered Lagartija Nick, a Spanish experimental rock band, while doing a search for music by Joe Strummer on Spotify. It just so happened that the group released a three song EP this year titled El TEstamento Del Sol, which features Joe Strummer on the cover art, and whose first song is titled “Strummer/Lorca”. Not being bilingual, I can’t say I know what is being said in the song, but the track rocked like a classic Clash song, so I was into it.
The group formed in the early 90’s, and after releasing a couple albums, finally found success in 1996 with their album Omega, which as based on lyrics by Federico Garcia Lorca (I’m guessing the same Lorca mentioned in the above-mentioned song). The group most likely took their name from the Bauhaus song of the same name, but I can’t confirm this.
It’s always great to see how the influence of The Clash has crossed borders and language barriers, and that the late Joe Strummer‘s legacy is being carried on world-wide.
