Monday evening, I was lucky enough to attend a private performance by Scottish synth-pop band CHVRCHES at KROQ’s HD Radio Sound Space.
It was an intimate acoustic performance, consisting of four songs; 3 from their latest album Love is Dead (“Graffiti”, “Miracle” and “Really Gone”), and closing with their breakout hit “The Mother We Share”.
Each song sounded fantastic. Singer Lauren Mayberry’s voice is beautifully pure (despite suffering from some allergies), and the intimate setting allowed Iain Cook to show off his acoustic guitar playing skills. Martin Doherty’s accompanying keyboard playing was soulful. The stage banter was cute, and the evening culminating with the crowd singing “happy birthday” to Lauren.
While I have yet to see the band play in a larger setting, their songs were perfect for the acoustics of the HD Radio Soundspace. It’s only disappointing they couldn’t do a longer set.
You can watch the full performance here for a limited time. And check out the band’s latest album below:
Even though we didn’t get to attend we watched this show online and what a beautiful performance by CHVRCHES! We can’t wait to see them again soon.
