Country: Iceland
Despite being known as a small, cold country, Iceland continues to produce artists with warm, colorful musical palettes. Soul/Folk/Pop artist Júníus Meyvant is the latest artist from that northern island country to showcase a masterful way with acoustic melodies and breathy harmonies that glow from an inner fire.
Much like the most recent hit Icelandic export, Of Monsters and Men, Júníus’ music utilizes lush arrangements , incorporating strings and horns to elevate brisk folk tunes towards orchestral peaks. Songs like “Gold Laces”, which has already garnered over 8 million streams in the U.S., swell like a sunlit ocean towards a calming elation, while his latest single, “Let it Pass”, opens with some upbeat coffee house percussion and twinkling strings, and breaks even bigger with Motown-esque backing vocals on the chorus that recall Ray Lamontagne at his most cheery.
