New Music Friday Playlist – May 24, 2019
The only problem with discovering more music you like is you’ll have more music to listen to each week, and it can overload your playlist. Look at this week – it started simply; a new album from classic British rockers The Waterboys, but then I found a new album from LA reggae punks The Aggrolites. Then I realized Mavis Staples new album was coming out today, and an even bigger soul legend, the late Lee Moses, had a singles & rarities collection dropping. Top that off with up-and-coming rockers The Amazons, whose singles we’ve been testing and enjoying around here, and that’s hours of new music right there.
Then you see the singles dropping: Britpop rockers Kaiser Chiefs have a new single, as do indie darlings Two Door Cinema Club. While we aren’t the biggest rap followers, new singles from Skizzy Mars, Young Thug and Joyner Lucas are all worthy of attention. Throw in new 311, Hot Water Music, Dan Mangan covering Cake, and a special collaborative cover of Soul Asylum‘s “Runaway Train” that’s seeking to bring the campaign for finding lost children back to the forefront (see the video here), and you realize that this weekend’s drops alone could carry you through the next week, if you weren’t still catching up from weeks prior.
Okay, so none of this is a real problem. In fact, it’s great to always find new tunes to be excited about. You wouldn’t be reading this if you didn’t feel the same way. Follow our NMF Playlist at the link on the top of the page, and sample some of these new tunes below.
