My Chemical Romance practically broke the internet last week with the announcement of their first reunion date, after calling it quits twelve years ago. Funnily enough, I had been listening to their albums only days before, growing my appreciation for the bombastic goth/punk/emo band’s ambitious tunes.
In honor of their reunion, and in lieu of having any new tunes from them (yet), I thought it would be fitting to return to their almost-annoyingly catchy single from their third album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, “Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)”. Damn that’s a lot of “Na’s”.
Blasting out the door like a sugary, hyperactive Ramones jam, the track always put me in a head-banging frenzy, drawing me in like a swaggering tornado. The album didn’t meet quite the same acclaim as its predecessor, the classic The Black Parade, but my guess is it’s one of those albums and songs that comes to find greater appreciation as time goes on, and fondness for the band grows.
