The debut single from new band, Burning Pools, is a sure bang bang banger! Burning Pools is led by former Smashing Pumpkins bassist, Ginger Pooley. Despite this band being new, the three members share a long list of studio and touring credits and have collectively worked with legends like Tom Morello, Siouxsie Sioux, Gwen Stefani, Morrissey, Liz Phair, Tegan and Sara, and bands such as Jane’s Addiction and Weezer.
“Bang Bang” hits hard and heavy out of the gate with excellent dirty guitar riffs. The sound is reminiscent of the Detroit music scene of the early 2000s that I truly love, in my opinion. This single is setting an excellent tone for the band’s forthcoming debut EP, most likely due out later this year. The EP is aimed as a critique of modern culture, as Ginger explains –
“It’s nothing new for music to be a voice of criticism of our culture. That is the purpose of a lot of art. This is just my way of expressing my frustration with the priorities of modern society. Valuing money over everything, undervaluing women and people of color. Hopefully our songs make people who are of the same accord feel heard and supported. There is so much injustice in the world, we hope to be a part of the solution in some small way.”
