Former in 2020 in Nashville, The Shindellas is comprised of Kasi Jones, Stacy Johnson and Tamara Chauniece – three women who fittingly share lead vocal duties, as the group was formed under the belief that when women come together, powerful change can happen. After premiering their first single in November 2020, the group recorded an EP and toured with Louis York, the Grammy-nominated songwriting and production duo that introduced the three members to each other.
The Shindellas‘ latest single, “Money”, is a revitalizing, vintage R&B rave-up. The group’s three-part harmonies recall the greatest girl group of yesteryear, but with a clear socially conscious bent. “All we want for our sons and daughters, is to find some peace, come Hell or high water” they sing, as decrying corporate greed. Yet, the funky, gospel-arrangement of the song, full of hand claps, horns and even some triangle, keeps the tone empowering while the vocals soar.
