As May is coming to a close, we’re getting a respite from the huge onslaught of albums that the last two weeks anointed upon us, allowing us to have a breather and spend more time appreciating the few but worthy new releases out this week.
Most prominent of those is the posthumous album from rapper DMX. Featuring everyone from Jay-Z to Bono, it will hopefully be a fitting closure to the late artist’s legacy. Slightly more upbeat, we have the new EP from pop-punk upstarts Hot Mulligan, which I know will hold me over until I see them live this Fall.
Though there aren’t many albums this week, there are still plenty of new tracks to enjoy that have dropped this week. Modest Mouse dropped the second single from their upcoming album, as have Sleater Kinney. We’ve got more new ones from AFI, Justin Courtney Pierre, Dispatch and Yola, and brand new singles from The Wombats, Wye Oak and hardcore act Turnstile.
Some other acts we’re fans of who have new singles out today are The Glorious Sons, The Bronx, Arkells, Jim Ward, Grizfolk and Skizzy Mars. The legend Danny Elfman has a brand new song out, pop-punk group The Maine have the 3rd song from their new album out, and summer rockers Travoltas have their first new song in a long while.
Some of the new acts we’ll be checking out this week (and which you should listen to as well) are Sarah Barrios, The Effens, Sigrid, Dooms Children, Nathan Kawanishi and Rolling Stone P.
Check all of these out in our New Music Friday Playlist!
