New Music Friday: July 1, 2022

2022 is officially half over, and yeah – it’s been quite a year. As we go into the long Independence Day holiday weekend, it’s not easy to focus on what’s worth “celebrating” about America at the moment. Here at the Indy Review though, we know that music is always a positive worth getting excited about.

Being the week before a holiday weekend, today is light on new albums, but considering how back the last weeks were, it’s not bad to have fewer records dropping. The one we will be giving our attention to is the new one from Scottish singer/songwriter Paolo Nutini. It will surely fire up the summer days. There’s also a new EPs from emo-rapper sadeyes and indie pop artist The Sunshine State which should pull at some emotional strings.

There are plenty of new singles worthy of your ears this week. If you read our Comeback Alert yesterday, you know we’re 100% in on the new one from Unwritten Law. Another group that came to prominence in the 90’s, the Goo Goo Dolls, have come back with a new song, just as “Iris” is having its own resurgence. Also nice to see Broken Bells, Ryan Hamilton and Rocky Votolato return with new tracks.

Fan of pop-punk and emo keep getting the goods, as there’s new ones from Yungblud, Mod Sun, JXDN, poptropicaslutz!, Anberlin, Near Beer and Sincere Engineer this week. Quinn Christopherson is continuing to make his presence known with new music since hitting our radar after the Gang of Youths show, and we’re happy to have Forgetmyname back with her second single. Oh, and here’s one we didn’t see coming; a new song from Scottish folk/rock duo The Proclaimers (of “I Would Walk (500 Miles)” fame).

And we always like to highlight some new acts on our list, so this week we’re giving some playlist time to Two Friends, Youngtree & the Blooms, Well Wisher, The Coronas, .waverunner, CF98, Joey Valence & Brae and The Rare Occasions.

Listen to all of these and more in our New Music Friday Playlist on Spotify or Apple Music!
