Not sure what is going on in Sardinia, but the island is carrying a surprisingly hefty amount of heavy blues rock talent these days. After our recent discovery of Loose Sutures, another veteran band from the island, King Howl, has hit my radar.
Releasing their first album over ten years ago, the band has toured heavily throughout Italy and the rest of Europe, developing their blues-saturated brand of heavy, stoner rock. As they’ve continued to hone their songwriting, incorporating hues of psychedelia and classic rock bravado, the resulting songs like “Motorsound”, from their upcoming album Homecoming (June 9th) speak for themselves.
A 70’s guitar lick juts out with a dash of swagger. The vocals bray and growl with a simmering ferocity. The bass adds an element of pending-doom, hammered home by the drums. This is barroom music; the soundtrack to smashing a beer bottle on your head as vocalist Diego Pani sings “I can’t take it anymore”. It’s the bouncer at the door throwing you on your ass if you’re too weak to be in the room. It’s rock n’ roll.
Take a listen to this delicious rocker in our Bangers of the Week Playlist!
