New Music Friday: June 2, 2023

June is beginning with a hugely rocking first New Music Friday! Foo Fighters return in bittersweet fashion with their first album since the passing of Taylor Hawkins. LovelytheBand continue to evolve their indie rock sound, while Rancid have a back-to-basics album of short and snappy punk rock. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds are repping Britpop, while Ben Harper is repping laid-back jam rock. McKinley Dixon has his latest collection of jazzy, inspired rap, Tommy Stinson’s Cowboys in the Campfire project has its debut album out, and then there’s the always smart and savvy Ben Folds bringing his lyrical piano pop rock back after a long hiatus. And the legend Joan Jett has dropped a new EP!

If you had asked me at the beginning of the year if I thought new music from Yellowcard was possible…well I might have said sure, since they were finally touring again. But that dream becoming a reality feels even better as we have their new song finally here. Also returning with new music after a bit of an absence are Hawaiian reggae-rockers Pepper.

Two years ago we discovered the greatness that is Grrrl Gang, so we’re happy to include their latest single this week. Indie riser Claud dropped a solid new one, and Albert Kass continues to show-off excellent songwriting on his latest. Felicity have the first single from their upcoming album, and fellow punk/emo-inspired acts Sundressed and This Wild Life are joining them with new music today.

Other artists/groups we love who dropped new songs this week are Jason Isbell, Bloc Party (with the great KennyHoopla), Magnolia Park, Queens of the Stone Age, Superlove, Extreme, Stroke 9, Flo Gallop, Devon Allman & Donavon Frankenreiter, The Gleeman and Be Your Own Pet.

And some of our favorite new discoveries this week that you can hear come from The Mysterines, Andrew X, Frankie Flowers, DD Allen, The Lowlies, Lindsay Lou, Erase Theory, Don’t Sleep and Strike Twelve.

Listen to all of these and more in our New Music Friday Playlist!
