Summer is moving along quickly, so it’s kind of nice that the music release calendar is slowing down a bit. Maybe we can all slow things down a moment and try to enjoy this summer heat wave.
Speaking of heat, one of the hot new releases this week is the first solo effort from Best Coast front woman Bethany Cosentino. Already got tickets to her show at the Troubadour in September. Indie folk troupe Darlingside have their latest album of headphone-worthy excellence out, and you should also check out the new album from William the Conqueror (and read our review of it here).
A unique collaboration between drummers Lol Tolhurst, Budgie and famed producer Jacknife Lee (who I actually took an art class with some years back) has emerged, with a guest vocal from LCD Soundsystem‘s James Murphy. It’s a banger of a track, and we got it for ya. Indie darling Mitski has returned from her near-retirement with the first single from her upcoming album, and the awesome Middle Kids have dropped the second song from their next album. There’s a powerful new song from Tyler Childers, and Sublime with Rome have brought in their brothers in reggae-rock arms Slightly Stoopid for a new summer singalong.
There’s new music from ska legends Mustard Plug, pop maestro Mayer Hawthorne, and rising alt star Holly Humberstone. We’ve got a new one from recent Check This artist The Helltones, and older Check This artist Foxtide. We’ve got fresh folk from the likes of Ray Lamontagne, Brett Dennen and Billy Raffoul, and a beautiful cover track from Depeche Mode‘s David Gahan.
Other acts we’re bringing back this week include The Vaughns, Worriers, Jenny Owens Young, Des Rocs, Strawberry Runners, Grrrl Gang, Glen Hansard, Guitarmy of One, Field Medic, Nora Kelly Band, Hotel Mira, Koyo, Jeff Rosenstock, Boys Like Girls, Maris, Kurt Baker, The Lowlies and Small Crush. Oh, and Smash Mouth have released their first new song since finding their new singer.
