New Music Friday: September 1, 2023

We’re hitting the last quarter of the year. While the weather still says summer, kids are back in school and various fall holidays are on peoples’ minds. And while not as busy as the last summer month, there’s still plenty of new music out today to start out the month with.

A star in the punk and ska worlds, Jeff Rosenstock is the kind of self-made wunderkind you can’t help but root for, so we want to do our part by sharing his latest record. We love a good reunion, so the return of Slowdive is worth celebrating with their latest. And finally, we always welcome new music from Philly rockers Fang Fang.

There are major new singles aplenty out today that deserve your streams. Having just announced a second show at The Troubadour, CHVRCHESLauren Mayberry has dropped her first official solo single. Italian rockers Måneskin have a new single out, with a VMA performance around the corner. Taking Back Sunday released the second single from their next album, along with the release announcement. And after a long time away, Beirut is back with a new track.

Felicity are giving us some “emo trash”, and Taking Meds are dropping some emo greatness. Values Here ask us if we know why, while Peter Gabriel tells us that love can heal. Stroke 9 pay tribute to the Frisco Bay, and Field Medic tell us we deserve attention. Some other acts returning with IndyReview-approved new tracks include Angel Du$t, Sincere Engineer, Grrrl Gang, Sofy, Mondo Trasho, Zach Seabaugh, Israel Nash, Wilderado, Briston Maroney, Ben Kweller and The War and Treaty.

And joining our list for the first time this week are acts pen pin, Christopher Tignor, Maria BC, My Life Story, able machines, borza, Floor Space, Hot Freaks, Arktik Lake, EMPRS and Karamelien.

If you want to hear all of these tracks and more, follow and stream our New Music Friday Playlist!
