Steve Creep is a fixture of the Montreal music scene, with a long history working behind the scenes as a tech, touring musician and overall multi instrumentalist talent. So when the 2020-2021 lockdown hit, and touring ended, he reached out to his old friend Tom Shemer and began writing songs. Wanting to have the feel of groups like Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Steve formed The Wildcards. And thus, Steve Creep and the Wildcards came into existence.
Playing all the instruments and handling the vocals is no easy feat, so the fact that the first single “Wind Me Up” is such an outright rock n’ roll smash is even more impressive. A mix of classic rock, punk and power pop, “Wind Me Up” blasts out of the room with sticky melodies while still carrying the power of hammering drums and slick electric guitars.
I won’t be surprised if these guys get signed to Wicked Cool Records in the near future, as they would be a perfect fit for that label. Until then, enjoy this independently-released gem of a song in our Bangers of the Week Playlist.
