Most bands form, practice, write songs, record an album, tour, and then break up. Quebec’s Why Nuts decided to do things a bit out of order. The band actually broke up ten years ago, but a few years ago decided to commemorate the fun times they had as a band by recording an album. That self-titled was released in 2022, and contains the slapping “I’m Your Man”.
A garage rock banger, the track rides an old school, porto-punk riff, with some raw drums and vocals that recall and young Iggy Pop. There’s a dark undertone to the track, making lyrics like “be mine, tonight” come across with a bit of a sinister glaze over the lustful attitude. Like a more melodic The Hives or pop-driven Queens of the Stone Age, Why Nuts may have been nuts to record a record after breaking up, as songs like this should be played live in a dirty, sweaty club.
Maybe if enough of you stream it in our Bangers of the Week Playlist, the band will come around again.
