New Music Friday: June 7, 2024

If you need something to get the gloom out of your June, music always works for me. And this week’s releases are definitely good for finding some sun in the world.

Bon Jovi always pack their music with positive energy, so if you’re in the mood for pumping your fist in the air for easy sing-along rock, check out their latest. If you want some funkier, funnier indie music, the latest from Eels will do nicely, while Strand of Oaks continue to explore vibes with his new album. As he discussed in our interview, there’s a ton of hopefulness in the new solo album from Jason Devore. The new album from folk-pop super group Fantastic Cat lives up to their namesake (not the cat part), and if you read our review of it, the new Sabrina Song album has the kind of sad songs that can make you feel good.

If you’re a 90’s alternative rock kid like me, then there’s more reason to celebrate today; we got new songs from The Offspring and 311 to get summer started right. Arkells continue to create good feelings with their new one “Big Feelings”, and Lime Cordiale always bring good vibes – their new one is no different. , and Cursive pack more power in their introspective and literary version of adult emo.

After impressing me with their performance opening for The Last Dinner Party, I’m happy to add the latest from Brigitte Calls Me Baby to the list, along with another fine punk tune from Sunday Morning. Bob Schneider is releasing more music than I can keep up with, but I’ve had a beautiful new one from earlier this week, and Bleachers have dropped their take on one of Jesse Malin‘s wonderful songs. This is a taste of a whole star-filled tribute album coming out this fall to support Malin’s recovery from a spinal stroke. Pre-order it here!

Zach Bryan blew me away with his live show last Sunday, and he’s got a new track from his next album out today, and his openers The War and Treaty also shared one of the new tracks they played during the show. Other returning artists this week include Carter Vail, Joe Gittleman, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Pixies, Glass Animals, Cigarettes After Sex, Soccer Mommy, Falling in Reverse, Fink, Halsey, Shovels & Rope, Kaleo, Blossoms, Internet Frendz, Petey, Coin, Chasing Kites, Gangstagrass, Icarus Phoenix, Donovan Woods, Ray LaMontagne, Grace Pettis, Beabadoobee, Los Lonely Boys, Happy Landing, Codename: Rocky, The Dollyrots, The Dip, Razor Braids, The Peawees and My Best Unbeaten Brother.

And this week, discover new music from Rocket Steadman, Landon Hoffman, Thin Lear, Le Tired, I Love Your Lifestyle, Share, Bird Language, The Lookout, Kobra Paige, Mallow Hill, Ports, Jamie Sutherland, Hazel Gaze, Andy Sydow and Empire Springs.

So yeah – plenty of good reasons to follow and stream our New Music Friday Playlist!
