New Music Friday: August 9, 2024

How is your August going? I’ve spent mine recovering from knee surgery (and also some blood clots in my leg) so far, so I’ll be taking it easy this weekend listening to new music.

After many weeks of heavy album releases, you might think things would be lighter for once – nope! Today, we’re getting new albums from Canadian punks Fucked Up, Australian alt-pop artist Amy Shark, UK indie rocker Beabadoobee, folk troubadour Amos Lee and power-trio Jr. Juggernaut. We also have the serene Neo-classical style of Jamie Duffy on his new EP. But, there are many many awesome singles out to make up for the absence of albums.

Big names like The Killers, Bright Eyes, Snow Patrol, LL Cool J, Eddie Vedder and Leon Bridges have dropped new songs this week. Exciting groups like Fontaines D.C. are continuing to show why they are so beloved, and we are getting an exciting, global collaboration from hard rockers Band-Maid and The Warning that should blow up. Motion City Soundtrack are triumphantly returning with a new track, and The Native Howl pay tribute to Johnny Cash with a wild cover of one of his final songs.
