New Music Friday: September 6, 2024

Labor Day has passed, summer is basically over (minus the heat here in L.A.), and the onslaught of Fall Music has begun! Great albums are falling onto streamers like leaves from a tree. New indie rock wunderkind MJ Lenderman has his first album for Anti out, while veteran indie rockers Airborne Toxic Event have shared another impactful lp. Rap legend LL Cool J has dropped a new album that will remind everyone why he is one of the original greats. Spanish band Hinds are back with the first album since becoming primarily a duo, and we have another great rock album from Arrested Youth. Sonny Singh is one of the most interesting artists to come on my radar in a while (not surprising he was a member of the eclectic group Outernational) so have to include his new album, and one of my favorite bands of all time, blink-182, have dropped the second half to their acclaimed One More Time album. To top things off, Laura Jane Grace, folk rock group Wax Owls, and new punks Massive Nightmares, have shared their latest EPs.

It’s always hard to know where to begin with the new singles hitting the stream-waves. Linkin Park announced Emily Armstrong (Dead Sara) as their new singer, and dropped their first new single featuring here. Mod Sun has been hyping up his latest track “Hotel Lights”, just as much as Leon Bridges has with his second single from his upcoming album. Royel Otis keep on surprising with new track drops to be added to their latest album, while Ashe is ensuring each new song she releases is connecting with her fans. Zebrahead are keeping the punk flag flying, while Flora Cash keep things mellow and moving.

Billie Joe Armstrong has been busy touring with b, after releasing a great album at the beginning of the year, but that hasn’t stopped him from recording a new album with his side-project Pinhead Gunpowder, and dropping a new single from them. Australian rockers Jet are back, and Sting has given us a new rock track. Other familiar artists returning this week include Stephen Kellogg, Joseph Arthur, Ski Lift, Libby Tisler, Peter Alexander Jobson, Hamish Anderson, Marianne Leigh, Fig Dish, Monica Aben, Joseph Shipp, Fever 333, Wild Rivers, Carolina Liar, Jamie Sutherland, Chiefland, Crows, Rex Orange County, Naima Bock, Jungle, Touche Amore, Jesus & Mary Chain, sullvn, Iglu & Hartly, Cathedral Ceilings, The Rubber-necks, Half Past Two, The Peawees, Heart to Gold, Stand, The Jellybricks, Arms and Hearts, The Goodwin Club, Tamar Berk and Fidlar!

Some new names you’ll find on the list this week include The Okmoniks, Tigers in Cairo, Downhaul, Blood Pact, Piper Page, TV Pins, New Hope Club, Madison Olds, Baby Schillaci, Molly Murphy, Jared Daws, Sarina, BXRRELL, Shady Oaks, Dead Motel, Lifter, Instant Crush, Nathan Jacques, Parker Woodland and The Backfires!
