Proudly coming from a little known Northern town in the UK, Camens have bulldozed their way onto the UK charts with their infectious mix of rock, Britpop and indie pop. With the recent release of their debut album Work/Life/Balance, the group is another example of British bands like The K’s and the Velvet Hands showing how great, catchy rock n’ roll doesn’t have to shy away from pop-friendly hooks and stadium-ready choruses. Of the many stand-out tracks on their debut, one that grabbed my attention was “Leave it for Now”.
The track calls to mind more classic-sounding UK bands like The Stone Roses than some of the more modern groups, with their effervescent guitar tones, pensive melodies, and exquisite layered production. There’s a romanticism at the heart of the track, with lyrics like “I’ll just say what you wanted, over and over again”, sharing the feeling of resignation we all can relate to when giving into a partner’s desires, even over our own better judgement.
