Most folks who follow this site will know that not a lot of modern rap/hip hop gets featured. It’s just rare that I hear something in the genre these days that sparks a real feeling or emotion. So when I do feature a modern rap song, you should know it’s the cream of the crop. That’s the case with this track from Dapp Deh Youngin. Born in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Youngin is a fairly new voice on the scene, and thankfully is not afraid of showing a more sensitive side on the single “Talk to You”.
A tribute song to his young protege “Big Steelo” who passed away last year, the song finds Youngin rapping over a mellow beat, accompanied by soothing saxophone and melancholy keys. Brittany Thompson sings a moving hook (“wishing I could talk to you, cause I think about you all the time”) that book-ends the track. Youngin keeps it short and sweet.
