Premiere: Aud Whitson – Loose Ends

With Aud Whitson‘s debut EP A House That Can’t Get Quieter set for release February 7, 2025, today I am excited to share the stunning first single from it, “Loose Ends”.

Whitson is a Kansas-based artist who approaches her songwriting and recording in a stripped-down manner, relying on only a few simple tools to capture her songs. This natural approach was intentional, as Whitson sought to put “the focus to be on the stories, the writing, in hopes that a magical sound would reveal itself in the process as so many artists I look up to have accomplished through similar approaches.”

The gentle track has Whitson waxing on heartbreak in the digital age. The uncertainty and insecurity that has permeated the modern mindset is on full display in lines like “I don’t want to be a tragedy. …I fear I shouldn’t say these things”. About the song, Whitson has said:

“I feel that I have really settled into a sound that is so deeply personal and true to the season of life that I am in. This is the first year of my life where I have truly felt that I am getting older and I think this music tells that story. This EP and the stuff I have planned for 2025 is really indicative of a second coming of age that I think many people experience in adulthood when life just keeps throwing punches at you and you have no choice but to keep going. I hope the honesty of these songs, as dark as they can get at times, are like a warm hug for somebody who needs to hear ‘I know nothing is okay right now but I promise you will get through this.’ It feels weird to say I am excited about this EP because it is so heavy, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t stoked. I am very proud of this music and grateful for the experience of making it. It helped me a lot and I am excited to share it with the world.”

Take a listen to the song here before it’s released this Friday, and if you’re in Kansas, you can catch Aud Whitson performing Friday, December 20 at Northside Social in Lawrence, KS.
