Welcome to February. Let’s all pray it’s a better month for all of us. At the very least, let’s be happy about the great new music we get to hear.
Music like the new album from Sharon Van Etten and her new band, which takes the artist into darker new territories. Awesome songwriters like Matt Nathanson, Michigander and Wilder Woods have their latest collections of smart and savvy pop rock and roots music out today. There’s also excellent power pop from The Jellybricks and Celtic punk from The Rumjacks.
Australian guitar virtuoso Tash Sultana is back with new musical goodness for us, and Waxahatchee continues to build upon last year’s success with another new track. Matt Andersen has announced a new album and shared the soulful title track, and Alex Orange Drink‘s new punky track brings along Conor Oberst for the pumped-up ride.
After covering the song at the opening of The Grammys, Dawes have shared their faithful cover of Randy Newman‘s “I Love L.A.” (with all proceeds going to MusicCares). British rockers The K’s have wasted no time writing a new album, and delivered the first single this week. Elton John and Brandi Carlile have teamed up for a new album, and shared the first taste of it. Veteran Sunset Strip rockers L.A. Guns are still kicking after 40 years, and have a new single our with an album on the way.
More of our favorites like Hamilton Leithauser, Bob Mould, Matisyahu and Lucius all shared new singles this week, while the legendary Femi Kuti continues to sing truth to power on his latest epic song. Other familiar acts joining the list this week include The Black Keys, Bryan Adams, Michigander, Wilder Woods, Heaven, The Slow Readers Club, De’Wayne, Josh Joplin Group, SYML, Fake Dad, Panda Bear, Sura Laynes, Rum Jungle, Icarus Phoenix, Ball Park Music, Phoneboy, The Helltones, Angel White, The Vices, Arcy Drive, Inhaler, Beach Bunny and Cash Cash x lovelytheband.
And appearing for the first time are Suzzallo (a new band from Rocky Votolato), Martyrs, Maisie, Crack! Bang! Pow!, The Lightning Struck, Push Puppets, Celebrity, Current Swell, Anand Wilder, A Short Walk to Pluto, Sawyer, Tomás Doncker & The True Groove All-Stars, Skip the Needle, Couldn’t Be Happiers, American Dawn, Diverted Disorder, Surf Trash, Fake Shark, Tiny Voices, Punchcard, Ferguson, and Another Damn Disappointment.
