Here’s hoping you all had a week filled with only mild foolishness. I’m currently writing this from Belgium (we music curators need vacations too), but nothing would keep me from sharing the great batch of new music out this week with you.
I’m a long-time fan of The Waterboys, so when I learned they were putting out a new album this year inspired by Dennis Hopper with features from Fiona Apple and Bruce Springsteen…well I was damn intrigued. Now we can all hear this latest work from the group. Another great, Elton John, has teamed with the talented Brandi Carlile for a brand new album, while songwriter extraordinaire Craig Finn has his latest solo album to hear (read our review of it here). We have the debut album from reggae-ska punks The Kilograms, and we also shared positive reviews of the new album by Josh Joplin Group (here) and the EP from Nikhita (here) this week, so we’re including those albums for you to hear in full as well.
New music from The Hives is always something to celebrate, so be excited for their new single. You should be equally as excited for the return of the heralded Wet Leg, and the duo’s latest smash. There’s fantastic new power pop from The New Pornographers, Durry and Dazy, and the next peak at The Beaches next album. Rise Against dropped the second punk barnburner from their next work, while Japanese act BabyMetal hit hard and fast with their Poppy-assisted new single. Another Japanese act we love, Band-Maid, is back with a fresh jam, while the evergreen Counting Crows have the second song out from their upcoming LP. We have two new songs from rising star Jack Van Cleaf, and rapper Aesop Rock has a new album on the way, and a new single out from it.
The legend Bruce Springsteen announced a sequel to his Tracks collection of lost albums this week, and shared the first taste of the music we’ve been missing. We’ve brought back After Elmer, Little Feat, S.G. Goodman, Jmsey, A.D.D., Badflower, Letdown., Pet Symmetry, L.A. Guns, sullvn, slackrr, Mihali, Haim, Zuli Jr, Lucius, The Modbeats, Johnny Manchild, Garfield Mayor, Elliot James Reay, Martyrs, chloethegod, Graham Hunt, Trousdale, Sparks, Arcy Drive, Izzy Mahoubi, Cumulus, Joy Buzzer, Slow Joy, Sitting on Saturn, Volbeat, Blondshell, Blue October, Ball Park Music, Sleep Token, Adam Melchor, Course and SYML to the list this week, as their new singles passed muster.
And the fresh sounds for the week include new songs from Trapfly, AudioGust, Garret Vandermolen, Kier Byrnes & The Kettle Burners, Kasador, Levi Robin, Ledher Blue, Noah Nordman, Close Talker, Sofia Härdig, Earth Farm, Ray and Paul Holmberg, West Riviera, Arrdee, Noble Oak, Giggs, Love Axe and The New Republic.
All these artists deserves some streaming love. Listen to them in our New Music Friday Playlist.
