New Music Friday: June 6, 2025

Summertime is here. We’ve hit June, and things are getting hot here in Los Angeles. Think you’ve found a “song of the summer” for yourself? Hold off on cementing one, as there’s lots of new albums and songs you should check out first.

One of my favorite indie rappers, McKinley Dixon, has his latest opus out today. Alternative hardcore group Turnstile continue to prove themselves a scene force, and Caamp have more perfect music for summer singalongs. Britpop pioneers Pulp have released their first new album in decades, and 90’s vet Tracy Bonham is back with her latest lp (read our review of it here). Finally, we have the latest from socially-minded rockers Dispatch.

Evanescence continues their revival with a new K. Flay-featured track from the Ballerina soundtrack. Superchunk announced their new album and dropped the third song from the forthcoming collection. Hot Mulligan have more brash pop-punk for us, while Dropkick Murphys are blasting back with a new Celtic punk smash. Curtis Harding is bringing some soul to our list, while Big Thief provides some poetic indie folk. Speaking of indie folk, Gen-Z wunderkind Ethel Caine has returned with their latest single, while All-American Rejects are capitalizing on their recent viral success with the second single from their new album.

Ruston Kelly announced his new album and dropped the second song from it this week, and the latest rocker from Bush. The Happy Fits keep trying to “out-catchy” themselves with their latest bop, and Kathleen Edwards is showing off her incredible songwriting on two new tracks from her next album. 2000’s pop-punk vets The Starting Line are finally releasing a new album, and shared the first song this week, while Matt Maeson is back with his latest work. We’ve even got new music from two very different legendary acts – The Doobie Brothers and Alice Cooper.

We’ve also got new songs from Wylderness, The Bones of J.R. Jones, The Shipbuilders, Hot Lobby, Pretty Bitter, Duncan Lloyd, Mo Lowda & the Humble, Starling, Elle Belle, Agora Sci-Fi, The Thing, Jon Bellion, The Spins, Frankie Cosmos, Super Cassette, Billy Dodge Moody, Kirsten Izer, Heartwells, Lot Lizards, Adeem the Artist, Portugal. The Man, LAMMPING, Lavendine, Richy Mitch & the Coal Miners, Gregory Alan Isaakov, SYML, Medium Build, The Ting Tings, Volbeat and Slightly Stoopid.

Our first-timers on the list this week include Nihilistic Easyrider, The Wind Ups, Soft Skies Inc, Bones Shredder, Andy Jenkins, TheKoiway, Assertion, Clinton Kane, Ivy, Pool Kids, Leading Edge, Strange Plants, Right Half, Juan Wuaters, Sunbendr, Vadim Taver, Agent 51, Neutral Snap, Bad Knees and The Favors (new band formed by Finneas and Ashe).

Listen to all of the above in our New Music Friday Playlist.
