New Music Friday: August 8, 2025

It’s hot here in California, and in our playlist this week, as we have some sizzling new releases for ya.

The brilliant Hayes Carll is a songwriter’s songwriter, and he is bound to impress with his lyrical acumen on his latest album. Pop-punk vets Good Charlotte have their first new album in years for us today, while genre-crossing king Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) has shared his anticipated new one. Then we have the beloved blues-rock duo The Black Keys, returning after a rough couple years with a new LP of jams.

Superstar Zach Bryan has roped in his current tour mates Kings of Leon to join him on his new track. Dark goth punks AFI have returned from the shadows with a new smash, while Japanese metal stars Babymetal are joined by rising artists Spiritbox on their final focus track. We have the latest track from breaking UK band Wolf Alice, and we get double drops from Lucy Dacus and Big Thief. Deftones‘ second new song is no less heavy than you would expect, while Rob Thomas continues to perfect his pop rock song craft on his third new song of the year.

Winona Fighter share their take on a Violent Femmes classic, while Texas songwriter Bob Scheinder raises some country rock hell on his new AC/DC cover. Kennyhoopla continues to explore alt pop with his latest song, and Of Monsters and Men have their second new single out. There’s more classic alt rock from The Lemonheads, folk pop from Brian Dunne, and caustic pop-punk from Hot Mulligan.
