Eylsia Nicolas is the ‘nom de plume’ of a former tennis champion, savvy business entrepreneur, and now a budding recording artist. While the revelation of her identity and her story will be slowly rolled out in the coming months, what’s no secret is how her music has been gaining attention. While her music crosses between styles, finding influences in pop, country and gospel, it’s her big band, R&B/jazz styled song “I Ain’t Lying Next Gen” that piqued my ears.
Full of bebop horns and classic, swinging rhythms, the song sounds like something dug up from a 1930’s time capsule. One can hear it being sung in a flappers party on New Years eve, or gracing the soundtrack to the movie BABYLON. Eylsia’s vocals perfectly vibe with the era, and provide a refreshing counter to much of the modern pop styled songs being released today.
