Check This: Dune Blue – Chevy

Artist: Dune Blue

Song: “Chevy”

Album: Doom & Bloom

Label: Dune Lagoon Records

Genre: Indie Surf, Indie Rock, Surf Punk

Beginning as Roland Mounier’s reggae-rock solo project, Brooklyn’s Dune Blue evolved into the indie surf punk band it is today when Jensen Meeker, Connor Picascio, and Nick Dwyer joined. Releasing singles since 2020, the band finally dropped their debut album Doom & Bloom this last September. Included in it is the stand-out single “Chevy”.

The song’s spiky guitar lines adhere to the band’s New York rock lineage, yet these edges are smoothed over by the beachy harmonies. The song is easy to coast along to, but taking a moment to listen to the lyrics, one discovers a tale of restless youth struggling to face adulthood (“She says I’m a child, living on the sea in my rundown Chevy”) and holding on to the last grasps of carefree fun (“Oh lord let me act a fool, at least till the weekend’s through”).

It’s escapists rock for those realizing that you can’t runaway from your problems forever. A healthy meal covered in cotton candy. Check out this gem in our Check This 2025 Playlist.
