Formed in 2022, American/Canadian garage punk band N.E. Vains initially began as a result of boredom during the lockdown. What it became was a troop of veteran rockers making short, punchy tunes that channel classic underground bands of the 70’s and 80’s.
Their latest album Running Down Pylons came out earlier this year, filled with under-two minute nuggets of no-frills rock. One of the highlights of the album is “The Grounds”, a rollicking melodic number that sounds as if The Cramps decided to do their best take on “heartland rock”. The vocals have a rockabilly lilt, while the guitars and drums strum and pound away. And it seems to end almost as soon as it began, making you want to hit “repeat” to get back the energy surge the song gives you.
