Denver-based songwriter Sophie West blends folk, soul, blues and Americana into her own Rocky Mountain style of songwriting. A versatile artist who is also a member of jam band West of Fennario, she’s currently been readying the release of her first collection Long Time Coming, and her single “Outrun My Mind” caught my ears.
West’s vocals on the song are deep, bluesy and soulful, while the arrangement is melancholic folk rock. It’s a soundtrack for a person on the open road, searching for themselves even as they drive with no clear direction. West “fears she’s out of time,” running “scared and breathless” unable to outrun the demons that plague her. It’s relatable for anyone who suffers from rumination and dark thoughts.
