New Hampshire’s The Low Stakes Band is comprised of Eric Colville and Ann Holbrook, two songwriters who write music with the same defiant spirit in which they like to live. The duo only began releasing music last year, but the level of songwriting shows the knowledge and experience both artists bring to the project. New songs like the classic-sounding “5 Days Over” are exemplary showcases for their songwriting.
A jangly, acoustic melody blooms through the song, following a “simple real-life moment: waiting for a girlfriend to come home and counting calendar days”. The track is vibrant, whimsical and endearing as Colville and Holbrook harmonize and let the narrative enfold. The duo have said the song was “written in just minutes”, which is mind-blowing as it’s such a perfectly little pop tune.
