New Music Friday: May 8, 2026

The day is FINALLY here. Our 3x Most Anticipated Album of the year Social Distortion‘s Born to Kill is finally out in the world. Rejoice!!! While this one is a big deal, since it’s been fifteen years since their last album, it’s not the only significant comeback this week. Broken Social Scene haven’t released an album of new material in nine years, but that drought also ends today. It’s been eight years since the last Basement album, so their new one is another one to celebrate. While The Lemon Twigs have remained active, any new music from the power pop band is one to be excited about. Up-and-coming soul artist Brother Wallace shared his electric new LP this week, and Future Teens dropped their latest album which our writer LOVED (read his review of their album). San Diegan Americana artist Jack Van Cleaf also surprised this week with a new EP.

The last original rock n’ roll band standing, The Rolling Stones, announced their new album Foreign Tongues this week, and dropped two songs from the upcoming album. Announced on their album is Paul McCartney, who also released a new duet with his Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr today. From internationally known, to local heroes Pacific Radio, who’s new single we premiered yesterday, and have in the list today. Angus & Julia Stone take things to the ‘Karaoke Bar’ on their latest single, while Mod Sun is looking in the ‘Mirror” on his.

One of my favorite ska-punk groups, The Iron Roses, are back with a bang. Low Cut Connie rocks away on his latest single, and Goose‘s latest sounds like a lost track from era’s past. Face to Face‘s Trever Keith continues his journey into country music with “Only Time,” while Winona Fighter are back with a bang on their new track “Bombs Away.” Kurt Vile keeps the grooves strong the latest single from his next album, and Father John Misty‘s latest is a scorching folk rock track.

We also have back Masks, Rosenthal, she’s green, Teenage Joans, zzzahara, Ray Bull, Felicity, Deer Tick, Elena Moon Park, Moody Joody, Lenka, Brook Fox, Mark Ward, Dazy, The Pretty Graves, Young Martyrs, Temper Trap, Aly Navarro, The Woggles, Devon Thompson, Papa Roach, The Last Dinner Party, Stanley Simmons, Pete Yorn, Death of Guitar Pop, Myles Smith, Iceage, The Flatliners, Michigander, Stephen Marley, Dogstar, Buffalo Traffic Jam and Chance Pena.

And joining our list for the first time this week are Linda Perry, Movements, Parts & Labor, Madska, Wave of the Flood, Drury Hill, Highdrive, Teagan Johnston, Harrison Gordon, South Summit, General Chaos, Deardarkhead, Simeon Walker, JPEGMafia, Man Mountain, Charles Fauna and Funambulist.
