Artist: Angela Begin
Song: “Coquihalla”
Album: TBD (Summer 2026 release)
Genre: Alternative / Indie Folk
The landscape of Canada is beautiful, so it’s not surprising that Montreal-based indie songwriter Angela Begin finds inspiration in the natural world, and the themes of spaciousness, temporality and transformation. After releasing her first single, “Rose Up,” last year, she recently shared the second song from her upcoming debut album.
The track, “Coquihalla,” is a dreamy, indie rock number with a shoegaze glaze. Elements of Mazzy Star meld with modern singer-songwriters like Gigi Perez for a sweeping and personal track. Begin juxtaposes somber feelings of awe, hurt and longing (“Forget my dreams, forget my name, forget the things I came here to say,”) with the glow and beauty of the world (“Hungry waters cascading down the mountainside”), and washes it all in waves of gorgeous sonics.
