The summer may be burning close to an end, but the music releases are hotter than ever.
Weezer continue to shine on their new Gold Album, fellow alternative vets The Afghan Whigs are just as darkly charismatic as ever on their latest LP (read our review of it here). Brandon Flowers takes us on his sojourn into classic country music on his latest solo LP, and excellent up-and-comer Squirrel Flower’s new album is one any fan of great indie rock/Americana should check out. The band Arkayla are also back with a brand new EP.
After a long break, Gang of Youths are finally back with a new song and I couldn’t be more excited. From that amazing Australian band, let’s fly across the world to the UK, where one of my favorite British artists, Jamie T, is making a return with a brand new song. And then we’ll cross the pond again where a more recent punk rock love of mine, New Junk City, announced their new album this week and dropped its first single. Joy Oladokun has a new song with Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold, and Spike and the Gimme Gimmes have dropped their cover of the 80’s classic “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”
Irish rockers Fontaines D.C. have an iridescent new song out, and Blondshell‘s latest is a lush and soaring number. Beck‘s latest adds a hymnal touch to his indie folk sound, while Bloc Party‘s latest is a lovelorn bop. And for Operation Ivy fans, big news: Tim Armstrong and Jesse Michaels have a new ska project called The Family Business LTD, and they dropped their first single this week. There’s new power-pop from Teenage Fanclub, and Dexter and the Moonrocks announced their new album with a new track. Yellowcard have surprise-shared a b-side from their latest album, and rising indie rockers Balu Brigada are back with a new track.
Other artists we’re also happy to have back this week include Imogen Clark, Sondre Lerche, Live Well, Major Spark, Anna Shoemaker, Mark Ciani, OneLineDrawing, Brother Wallace, Worm Girlz, fish narc, Holsman, Sawyer Hill, Vacations, Elanor Moss, Sweet Gloom, The Goods, Annabelle Chairlegs, The Upsides, Nicole Atkins, Mark Bryan & the Screaming Trojans, Blythe Woods, Time Spent Driving, Claire Guerreso, Lucy Frost, Hermanos Gutiérrez, Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures, Post Sex Nachos (feat.
